As founder of the Peerlink Initiative, Mugabirwe has spent nearly two decades building a network of educational opportunity that is reshaping the future of countless young lives.
Since founding Peerlink Initiative in 2007, Mugabirwe has masterfully expanded from a single community library in Nyarushanje to an impressive network of 30 satellite libraries. But these aren’t just buildings with books – they’re vibrant hubs of learning where children discover the joy of reading, gain digital literacy skills, and access vocational training.
“Early literacy education is fundamental to a child’s academic success,” explains Mugabirwe, whose organization has been implementing child-focused reading activities across three community libraries for the past four years. She’s currently working to upgrade the Initiative’s reading activities into full-fledged Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers, with plans to establish a demonstration center that will train ECD facilitators and support rural primary schools. This expansion addresses critical challenges in Uganda’s public education system, including infrastructure limitations, teacher training gaps, and the need for greater parental involvement.
