Sometimes a painting doesn’t do quite what I think it’s going to… And sometimes it doesn’t do what I wish it would!
As I painted this, of a favorite beach on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, I wanted figures to be in the landscape.
As you can see, there aren’t visible figures anywhere in this landscape..
I wrote a poem about it all, which you can read below 🙂

Pastel on sanded pastel paper, 11.75 x 15.75 ″.

Description

Sometimes a painting doesn’t do quite what I think it’s going to… And sometimes it doesn’t do what I wish it would!
As I painted this, of a favorite beach on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, I wanted figures to be in the landscape.

I fought with it for quite some time
Creating figures
Seeing that they weren’t quite right
Removing them
Starting the process again.

Something happened along the way
I came to see these figures as ethereal
Preferring to be within the ocean
So they could be at one with everything
And that’s where they are now.

They’re helping the painting shine from within.
Just like each and every one of us has a little light in our heart that shines.

Pastel on sanded pastel paper, 11.75 x 15.75 ″.
